About Castro Candaz Finca El Curvado

Castro Candaz Finca El Curvado is a red wine from the D.O. Ribeira Sacra produced by Raúl Pérez. This wine is made using only Mencía (100%) grapes.

Castro Candaz Finca El Curvado was conceived as a brilliant idea of Raúl Pérez. As part of a generation who revelutionised El Bierzo, Pérez found his fame when his 2005 vintage of Ultreia de Valtuille, produced by the winery Castro Ventosa, scored an impressive 98 Parker points. From this new found fame, the Spaniard untook several new projects; including this Castro Candaz collection at D.O Ribeira Sacra.

The local climate is characterised by a presence of strong continental influences, even the areas close to the riverbeds usually have moderately warmer temperatures. The soils have a strong acidity and are generally sandy, quite complex with the possibility of finding granitic elements. The vineyards are cultivated and grown on steep slopes, which is characteristic of the region.

Castro Candaz Finca El Curvado then passes through the various phases of the wine production process, the harvest, vinification and manufacturing. Before being bottled and placed onto the market, the wine is aged for a year in French oak barrels.

 

2016 Castro Candaz Finca El Curvado 2016 is an easy to drink, complex and juicy red wine. A good vintage where the aromas of ripe red and black fruit stand out on the nose, on a light toasted and mineral background. In the mouth, it is easy to drink, with a certain volume and a long finish.
2013 Robust yet delicate. Exhibiting excellent tannic structure, it remains vibrant and faithfully echoes the olfactory impressions perceived during the tasting.

Garnet with pinkish highlights. Luminous and enticing, with a light hue.

Characterized by pronounced freshness. It melds hints of red fruit with vegetal nuances. Underpinned by a balsamic backdrop and subtle mentholated fragrances.
