About César Márquez Parajes

César Márquez Parajes is a barrel-aged red wine made by César Márquez Pérez with the Mencía, Alicante Bouschet and other white varieties in the D.O. Bierzo (Castilla y León).

Nephew of Raúl Pérez, one of the world's most renowned winemakers, César Márquez carries the art of winemaking in his blood. After seven years as an apprentice with his uncle, he decided to set up his own project. Founded in 2015, each of his wines reflect their exact origin. To achieve this, he respects the terroir as much as possible and intervenes in the winemaking process as little as possible. In short, this is artisan work that is about a going back to the roots.

César Márquez Parajes is a coupage of the most prestigious and unique Bierzo plots. Old vines grown as they used to be, without using pesticides or chemicals that can damage the natural balance of the terroir. Each of the plots is worked separately according to their needs and the harvest is carried out manually.

In the winery, 50% of the grapes used to make César Márquez Parajes are destemmed. Then they are pressed in the old-fashioned way, with feet, so that some of them stay whole during fermentation. Fermentation is spontaneous with the grape’s native yeasts. Once the must becomes wine, it is pressed and placed into 225 and 500 litre barrels separately. After 12 months the barrels are emptied and the different wines are combined.

César Márquez Parajes remains true to its roots. A wine that overflows with natural elegance as a result of the quality of the raw material and the expertise of the makers. Freshness with enveloping smoothness.

César Márquez Parajes 2023 delivers an authentic and harmonious experience. At first glance, its intense cherry-red hue captures attention. When you bring the glass to your nose, it awakens with fresh aromas of red fruits such as cherries and raspberries, with a subtle floral touch that lends elegance. On the palate, it presents a refined structure, where balance and delicacy meld with a refreshing acidity that extends its finish. This vintage is particularly noted for its sobriety and elegance, with a meticulous production of 34,000 bottles, making it an excellent choice for those who value quality and craftsmanship.
2017 César Márquez Parajes 2017 is a juicy red wine with aromas of fresh red and black fruit, vegetal notes and spicy touches. On the palate it is fruity, enveloping and very broad. A wine with plenty of freshness that is impeccably integrated and has a delicious saline finish.
