Tasting notes Château Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse 2021

Red wine Aged in wood Respectful agriculture. 12 meses en barricas de roble.

Château Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse 2021 is a veritable gem from Saint-Émilion. On the nose, it reveals a splendid bouquet where ripe black fruits such as blackberries and blackcurrants stand out, complemented by delicate hints of violets and a subtle graphite aroma. Upon tasting, its silky texture caresses the palate, offering intense and concentrated flavours that are balanced by a refined acidity and well-integrated tannins. The prolonged finish brings forth an astonishing minerality, a reflection of its origin in clay and limestone soils. About Château Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse

Reaching the pinnacle is arduous; however, remaining there is even more intricate. In the realm of wine, where each vintage tests expertise and patience, only a select few wineries can boast sustained greatness over time. Château Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse undoubtedly belongs to this exclusive circle.

Its history commenced in 1847 when the Duffau-Lagarrosse family acquired this gem located in Saint-Émilion. Since then, the château has witnessed generations who have imparted more than just vineyards. A philosophy rooted in respect for the terroir and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Today, it is Joséphine Duffau-Lagarrosse, the eighth generation of the family, who steers the estate, blending heritage with contemporary sensibility.

Since the inception of the Saint-Émilion classification in 1955, Château Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse has held the distinction of Premier Grand Cru Classé, a recognition it has maintained unbroken. In an appellation where prestige is periodically reassessed, this consistency is a testament to a solid and coherent quality over time.

Château Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse originates from a small and privileged vineyard, less than 7 hectares, situated on the slopes of Saint-Émilion itself. The clay-limestone soils, coupled with ideal sun exposure and the influence of the wind, create a perfect environment for the vine to express itself with precision and elegance. The traditional varieties of the region (merlot and cabernet franc) are harmoniously combined, resulting in a balanced wine, profound and full of nuances.

Following vinification, the wine matures for over a year in French oak barrels, a significant portion of which are new, imparting structure and complexity without overshadowing the character of the terroir.

The outcome is a wine that speaks with a serene yet firm voice, a reflection of an estate that understands the true challenge is not reaching the summit, but remaining there with authenticity and character. Château Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse does not seek to dazzle; it prefers to convince, glass by glass, with the quiet authority of one who has been doing things right for nearly two centuries.
