Many couples, eager to have a child, pursue this goal for years and do not always succeed immediately. The same can be said for projects: sometimes one must patiently await the perfect opportunity. This was precisely the experience of Patrick and Sophie Ligeron.
For years, these two intrepid wine connoisseurs had been searching for the ideal vineyard to establish their own domaine, until 2015 when the opportunity they had been waiting for presented itself. Patrick, who was in Los Angeles at the time, received the news that 5 hectares of vineyard in Château-Chalon, in Jura, were available for lease. Thus began their venture.
Domaine des Carlines is located in the picturesque village of Menétru-le-Vignoble, within the prestigious Château-Chalon appellation, renowned as the grand cru of the yellow wines, the famous vin jaune. The estate is managed with sustainable viticulture, moving towards farming, respecting the unique identity of the terroir and allowing the roots to penetrate the grey marl and clay soils, extracting all the characteristic minerality of the Jura.
One of their most distinguished wines is La Vouivre, crafted from four emblematic plots: En Beaumont, Le Calvaire, En Lya, and Trémoulette. It is a blend of chardonnay and savagnin, produced in the ouillé style, continuously topping up the barrels with fresh wine to shield it from oxygen and preserve the fruit's purity. The fermentation is natural, with maturation lasting 12 to 15 months in used Burgundy oak barrels, followed by blending and a final resting period of 3 to 6 months. Everything is done without filtering or fining, maintaining the most authentic expression of the terroir.
Domaine des Carlines Voile is a wine that speaks of its land with freshness and elegance, full of delicate aromas and vibrant personality. A Jura in its purest form, born of patience and care, much like a long-awaited child who finally arrives to give meaning to the entire journey.
