About Domaine Jules Desjourneys Beaujolais Rouge

Beaujolais, south of Burgundy. Twelve denominations. Three wines. Gamay (red variety) as the leit motiv. And a great producer: Fabien Duperry at his Domaine Jules Desjourneys.

For years he dedicated himself to representing and selling the wines of the best in the business. Today he is part of this group, with wines such as Domaine Jules Desjourneys Beaujolais Rouge. This is a red wine, produced at the Beaujolais-Villages AOC. Under this umbrella, there are 38 villages located in the north of the appellation where its steep slopes are the foundation and soul of its vineyards. Namely, the vines here are located between 200 and 500 metres above sea level, on granite soils that gradually erode into sand and small volcanic stones.

At Domaine Jules Desjourneys, cultivation is always biodynamic, with manual work that does without machinery and chemical products. This is something very complicated to carry out, since sometimes the large slopes make the work much more difficult and complicated. In Fabien Duperry’s case, this phase is the most important, since what is not achieved in the vineyard cannot be achieved later in the winery. In fact, Fabien Duperry is in favour of minimal intervention, with special care only during fermentation and aging. The latter is very long, even several years, becoming a hallmark of the house. And so it goes at Domaine Jules Desjourneys Beaujolais Rouge. Bon appétit!

Domaine Jules Desjourneys Beaujolais Rouge 2020 is a mature, very dark garnet-coloured wine. The nose is complex, with aromas of berries, plums, spices, petals and some meaty nuances. The palate is structured and satiny, with meaty touches and sharp acidity. Long and delicious finish.
