About Domaine Vicomte de Noüe Marinic Goriska Groblja Vedrignano II Cru Classificazione

It's often said that the French are chauvinistic, always believing theirs to be the best. Perhaps. Yet, they are also the first to acknowledge a great terroir when they recognise one. Such was the case with Goriska Brda ZGP.

Merely an hour from Venice and three kilometres from the Italian border, these gentle, luminous hills—dubbed the "Slovenian Tuscany"—possess a certain magnetism. The ponca soils, a blend of marl and limestone, impart tension and minerality to the wines. It is no coincidence that as early as the 18th century, the region captured the interest of the French nobility. The King of France himself purchased land here, and later, Napoleon's daughter promoted the planting of French varietals, which adapted remarkably well.

This historical connection is what comes to fruition today at Vini Noüe Marinic. The project merges the deep-rooted heritage of the Marinic family with the Burgundian perspective of Charles-Louis de Noüe, associated with the legendary Domaine Leflaive. This is not about "Frenchifying" the Primorska region, but rather interpreting it with the precision and parcel culture that Burgundy has honed over centuries. Local tradition and French method do not compete; they enhance each other.

The finest example is Domaine Vicomte de Noüe Marinic Goriska Groblja Vedrignano II Cru Classificazione. A chardonnay from vines over 45 years old, planted on terraced ponca, cultivated organically and harvested by hand. The ageing process involves 12 months in used Burgundy barrels and 6 months in steel, with the aim of refining rather than overshadowing the wine, respecting its natural energy.

Burgundy recognised the potential of the so-called Slovenian Tuscany centuries ago; today, Goriska Brda responds with Domaine Vicomte de Noüe Marinic Goriska Groblja Vedrignano II Cru Classificazione, a white wine that does not imitate but asserts its own voice.
