About Edouard Delaunay Bourgogne Cote d’Or Chardonnay

The famous German poet, novelist, playwright and scientist Wolfgang von Goethe said “What you have inherited from your parents, earn over again for yourselves, or it will not be yours.” This phrase perfectly describes Laurent Delaunay. As the fifth generation of a family of merchants, he is in charge of recovering the old family estate that had been gradually forgotten in recent years. As the great-grandson of its founder, Edouard Delaunay, he uses hard work and ambition to recover the maison and reposition it among the great Burgundy houses by vinifying and aging exceptional wines from the region’s best terroirs.

One example of his work is Edouard Delaunay Bourgogne Cote d'Or Chardonnay. A wine made with Chardonnay grapes from two different areas. Some come from the Côte d'Or, mainly the Côte de Beaune and the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits (Burgundy), and some come from the heights of the Mâconnais. The Côte d'Or wines are vinified in French oak barrels and the Mâconnais grapes ferment and age in stainless steel tanks. The final blend spends 12 months in French oak barrels.

The result is very pleasing. Edouard Delaunay Bourgogne Cote d'Or Chardonnay is a contemporary Chardonnay that brings together the elegance and finesse that characterise the great white Burgundies at an irresistible price.

 

2018

Edouard Delaunay Bourgogne Cote d’Or Chardonnay 2018 is a luscious white wine suffused with scents of citrus, buttery nuances, and hints of hazelnut. On the palate, it is vivacious, velvety, and refined. It unveils layers of melted butter complemented by a taut acidity and a flinty minerality on the finish.
