About El Pájaro Rojo

The bird instantly evokes something dynamic, cheerful, and carefree. It doesn’t demand solemn explanations nor does it insist on staying still; its nature is to fly free, perch where there is movement, and fill any corner with joy. With that same energy, El Pájaro Rojo was born, honestly conceived by the winery Losada Vinos de Finca as its most social and fun creation. Inspired by the international idea of a true party wine, it seeks to break the distance that sometimes surrounds the wine world to focus on what truly matters. That is, to uncork without complications, serve a well-chilled glass, and let conversations flow around a table full of friends.
 
From Valtuille de Abajo, Pieros, and Corullón, in the heart of the DO Bierzo, El Pájaro Rojo is crafted under the precise watch of Losada Vinos de Finca. The grapes come from a carefully selected array of old vineyards, aged between 30 and 40 years, situated on gentle hills with various orientations and at an altitude ranging from 480 to 600 metres above sea level, which encourages balanced ripening and preserves acidity. The soils are poor with a high content of red clay, a key element to provide structure, volume, and retain just the right amount of moisture in the vineyard. The area's climate is a transitional Atlantic-continental one, characterised by moderate temperatures and constant ventilation. The variety is 100% Mencía, cultivated with a limited yield of 5,000 kilograms per hectare to ensure the concentration and quality of the fruit through hand harvesting.
 
The production of El Pájaro Rojo follows a methodical and respectful process to preserve its lively profile. After the grapes are harvested, the bunches undergo complete destemming, followed by a gentle crushing. The must undergoes alcoholic fermentation, the biological process in which yeasts convert the grape sugars into alcohol, driven by indigenous yeasts in stainless-steel tanks with periodic pump-overs to extract colour and aromas from the skins. Subsequently, both fermentation and malolactic fermentation take place in barrels. Finally, the wine completes a 4-month ageing in French oak barrels before bottling.
 
El Pájaro Rojo is a juicy, vibrant red wine that is very straightforward, where fresh red fruit intertwines with floral hints and a smooth texture that invites continued sipping. A demonstration that a great wine can also be the most fun.
