Inspired by the Via Edetana, an ancient Roman road that linked Tortosa with Zaragoza, in the Iberian Peninsula, Edetària is a wine project located at a strategic point on the road, in Terra Alta (Catalonia). Its creator Joan Àngel Lliberia, who is passionate about his homeland, works rigorously to champion a denomination that has as much to offer as its neighbour Priorat. These wines ooze terroir and character and are a tribute to Mediterranean culture.
In a unique new building surrounded by old vines, Lliberia draws on a very long family winemaking tradition to produce Finca La Terrenal d'Edetària. This is a hedonistic, long-aged white wine that comes from old Garnacha Blanca vineyards planted on clay soils. The vines are over 60 years old and harvested by hand in 15 kg boxes. When these boxes reach the winery, they are kept in the refrigerator for 48 hours. After pressing and settling by gravity, the resulting must is fermented at 18ºC for 20-25 days. The wine then rests on its lees for 8 months in 350 and 500-litre French oak barrels.
The result is Finca La Terrenal d'Edetària, a Garnacha Blanca at its maximum expression that perfectly demonstrates that it is the flagship variety of the D.O. Terra Alta.
