About Fontanafredda Vigna la Rosa Barolo

In the late 1850s, Rosa Vercellana, known as the Bela Rusin, was merely 14 years old when her gaze met that of Vittorio, son of King Carlo Alberto, during a stroll through the park of Racconigi. It was love at first sight, though their relationship had to remain clandestine for years. Rosa became the most envied woman of her era and bore Vittorio two children: Vittoria and Emanuele.

After the death of the king's wife and despite the pressure to marry someone of his rank, in 1877 Vittorio chose her, bestowing upon her the title of Countess of Mirafiore and Fontanafredda and gifting her the estate of Serralunga d'Alba, in Piedmont (Italy). There, amidst fine cuisine and an appreciation for wine, the history of the Fontanafredda winery was born. Her son, Emanuele Alberto, fortified the project, establishing it as a benchmark in Barolo and in the Serralunga region.

Today, Fontanafredda Vigna La Rosa Barolo pays tribute to that history. This Barolo embodies the land of Serralunga, with soils rich in sand, limestone, and the area's distinctive blue marl. Hand-harvested nebbiolo grapes are meticulously fermented with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matures for 24 months in medium oak barrels, followed by a 12-month refinement in the bottle. 

Fontanafredda Vigna La Rosa Barolo is an elegant, complex, and profound wine, merging the legacy of the Bela Rusin with the excellence of contemporary Barolo.
