About Gaia Notios Red

Gaia Notios Red is a wood-aged red wine made by Gaia Wines with the Syrah and Agiorgitiko varieties in the Peloponnese denomination (Greece).

Gaia Wines was founded by Yiannis Paraskevopoulos and Leon Karatsalos in 1994 in the two best wine regions in Greece: Santorini and Nemea. Pioneers of the modern Greek wine revolution, they make avant-garde wines with native Greek grape varieties that are turning heads around the world.

Gaia Notios Red is made from exceptionally mature grapes grown in a low-yield, unirrigated vineyard in the hills surrounding the Nemea wine region. These vines are planted in a shallow clay layer and lime soil. The grapes are harvested manually in 20 kilogram boxes.

In the winery, the grapes used to make Gaia Notios Red are cooled before vinification. They are then soaked for 48 hours in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures. Fermentation takes place with selected yeasts at a controlled temperature and finally the wine is cold stabilised.

Gaia Notios Red was created with the aim of showcasing the potential of native Greek grape varieties. This is a surprisingly lively and spicy young wine.

2019

Gaia Notios Red 2019 is a juicy red wine with aromas of fruit pudding, notes of liquorice and hints of fresh herbs. On the palate it is refreshing, velvety and persistent. A wine with smooth tannins, lively acidity and a spicy finish.
