Tasting notes Glenmorangie a Tale of Spices 70 cl.

Whisky (75 cl.).

Glenmorangie a Tale of Spices is a mustard-gold whisky that piques curiosity even before it touches the lips: the nose is filled with roses, carnations, and jasmine, interwoven with a spectrum of spices—cumin, saffron, nutmeg, ginger, chili, and anise—while a whisper of sweet oak and chestnut smooths everything out. With a few drops of water, its fruity notes emerge, accompanied by a hint of menthol and bread dough. On the palate, each sip is a small journey: the earthiness and warmth of ginger, black pepper, and mustard seeds combine with a seductive sweetness of peppermint toffee and caramelised almonds, and a hint of eucalyptus caresses the finish, leaving a lingering and captivating trail. It is a whisky that invites one to lose themselves in a voyage of exotic and comforting flavours, where complexity feels both approachable and surprisingly accessible.

About Glenmorangie a Tale of Spices

Have you ever imagined that a whisky could narrate tales of spice markets and distant voyages with every sip? Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices is born from the curiosity and passion of Dr. Bill Lumsden for extraordinary casks (he is the director of distillation at Glenmorangie) and the inquisitiveness of master blender Gillian Macdonald, who together experimented with the first edition of Glenmorangie aged in bourbon and finished in four different types of cask.

The distillery, established in 1843 by William and Anne Matheson in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, retains its artisanal essence. From its earliest creations to the present day, Glenmorangie has cultivated a legacy of elegance and refinement, where each whisky reflects the land and history of this "Valley of Tranquillity" (the meaning of Glenmorangie in Gaelic), as well as a commitment to sustainability and the preservation of its environment.

Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices is a masterpiece in the art and knowledge of wood management: Moroccan red wine casks, charred oak, Pedro Ximénez, and shaved and toasted red wine casks contribute layers of sweet spices, red fruits, caramel, and floral nuances. When a cask is described as "shaved" (shaved wine cask), it means the inner layer of old wood that was in contact with the wine has been mechanically scraped to expose the fresh oak rich in vanillin and tannins; the subsequent toasting caramelizes the natural sugars, accelerating, deepening, and imparting new sensations during maturation.

The result is an intriguing and vibrant whisky, where sweet and spicy notes intertwine with rose and jasmine blossoms, inviting you to savour it slowly, perhaps in an intimate and warm moment, accompanied by fine dark chocolate, a light fruitcake, or simply enjoying its complexity in a leisurely manner. Each sip reveals the meticulous passion, boldness, and legacy of one of Scotland's most iconic distilleries.
