About La Val Albariño

What makes a good Albariño the perfect companion to transform any meal into a little escape to the Rías Baixas? La Val achieves this with a classic yet never dull approach, encapsulating the character of its diverse vineyards in a single bottle. Fresh, expressive, and with that Atlantic touch that calls for a shared table, it is one of those white wines that slips in naturally and lingers in the memory.
 
The story of La Val is intertwined with the history of Rías Baixas (Galicia) itself. Founded in 1985 and one of the pioneering wineries of the denomination, it now boasts 94 hectares of vineyards spread across four major estates. Each contributes something unique: the acidity from the granite of Taboexa, the fruitiness from the alluvial and pebble soils of Arantei and Porto, and the minerality from the schist of Vilachán. The result is a delightful conversation between landscapes.
 
For the production of La Val Albariño, the grapes are hand-picked and arrive fresh at the winery to preserve their vibrancy. Part of the grapes spends a few hours in contact with the skins before the must ferments slowly, followed by several months on its fine lees, adding texture without losing lightness. In the glass, it appears clean and fragrant, with white fruit, citrus notes, and a pleasant mineral sensation, while the acidity provides that fresh and precise pulse so recognisable in a good Albariño.
 
La Val Albariño is a wine that finds its place without demanding too many explanations: alongside seafood, fish, a freshly made rice dish, or simply a table full of nibbles. A bottle for when you crave something fresh, bright, and with that saline air that seems to bring a touch of the Galician coast with it.
