About Maupertuis Pink Bulles

Louis XIV and Henry IV enjoyed this wine at their tables. It has always been well known and its quality has survived the passing of time. We are talking about the wines made in the D.O.P. Auverne, one of the first wine-growing regions in France; wine was being made here as early as 50 BC.

This area is home to Maupertuis Pink Bulles, a sparkling wine made by Jean Maupertuis, the master of natural wines. These types of wines are made with the minimum possible intervention, both in the vineyard and in the winery. Jean Maupertuis, who used to work in IT and who learned from Marcel Lapierre, was the first winemaker who decided to concentrate on this type of wine in the 1990s. His wines are made from the 3 hectares of vineyards he bought in Clermont-Ferrand, where he grows Gamay and Pinot Noir at an altitude of 400 metres and avoiding the use of fertilisers and herbicides.

When the Maupertuis Pink Bulles grape bunches reach the winery, they are placed in the vat whole, with the grapes and stems together. Following a spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, Maupertuis Pink Bulles is aged for six months before disgorging. Finally, when bottled, Maupertuis Pink Bulles is neither filtered nor clarified.
