About Niepoort VV Vinhas Velhas Branco

Niepoort VV Vinhas Velhas Branco is a white wine coupage of Maria Gomes and Bical from the DOC Bairrada produced by Niepoort in the Beiras area, Portugal.

Niepoort is a family winery founded in 1842 that produces Port wines and still wines. It is run by the Niepoort family who have worked with the Noriega family for many years to make and select the coupage for their wines. Since the very beginning, the winery has worked to unite tradition with modernity. They use traditional Portuguese techniques such as grape treading, fermentation in cement tanks or aging in pipes, 550-litre port-aging barrels, whilst also using new technologies that ensure the grapes are handled with care. They have vines in different locations, some of which are more than 100 years old, and they have their aging room, Serpa Pinta, in the town of Vila Nova de Gaia. 

The Niepoort VV Vinhas Velhas Branco vines are between eighty and over one hundred years old and are planted in a limestone terroir with clayey touches at almost sea level. They are trained using the Guyot system and harvested manually.

Once the Niepoort VV Vinhas Velhas Branco is vinified, it undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages in 1,000-litre, 60-year-old Mosel foudres for about 20 months.

Niepoort VV Vinhas Velhas Branco is a wine that represents the incredible lightness and complexity of Barriada. It balances the verticality of the Bical and the expressiveness of the Maria Gomes.

2023

Niepoort VV Vinhas Velhas Branco 2023 is a white wine with an intense, straw-sunny color. On the nose, it reveals aromas of lemon, spices, and white flowers, complemented by a mineral touch of limestone. Upon tasting, its flavor is full yet light, with a refreshing acidity and elegant mineral notes. Its profile is creamy, offering a balanced and subtly mature experience with each sip.                      
2019

Niepoort VV Vinhas Velhas Branco 2019 is a white wine with a distinctive personality. Exhibiting a pale yellow hue, this wine reveals itself as vivacious, with an exceedingly expressive and mineral-driven bouquet showcasing fresh herbs, lime blossom, and white florals. On the palate, it is light and crisp, adorned with saline nuances. It is both refreshing and sophisticated. Quite forthright. The finish is stark, underscored by a mineral essence. 
2016 Niepoort VV Vinhas Velhas Branco 2016 offers a vibrant profile, with plenty of tension and aromas, it is expressive whilst also being somewhat austere. The mineral notes of the soil are evident, and balanced out by the aromas of fresh herbs and lime notes. The finish is fresh, saline, delicate and elegant.
