About Penfolds Rwt Shiraz

Australia’s most renowned and prestigious winery, Penfolds, was founded by Christopher Rawson, an English doctor who settled with his family in Adelaide, South Australia, in 1844 and saw the opportunity to plant vines he had brought with him from the Old World. This is how he began to produce fortified wines. However, his purposes were medicinal. His wines were prescribed to his patients as a remedy to combat anaemia. But the concoction was so well received that the winery was soon encouraged to produce red and white wines as well, and in less than a decade, the winery was producing half of Australia’s wines. Despite becoming large and powerful, this project has managed to maintain a rich winemaking tradition over 175 years that has been guarded by its four main winemakers: Max Schubert, Don Ditter, John Duval and Peter Gago. Four great professionals who have always strived to refine their work, but always respecting their predecessors.

One of the winery’s great works, Penfolds Rwt Bin 798 Shiraz is a 100% Syrah single-variety grown in the Barossa Valley through respectful agriculture. One of Australia’s most spectacular wine regions offering the richest grape production. Once the fruit reaches optimum ripeness, it is harvested and carefully selected for vinification. In the winery, the grapes macerate and ferment in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures and then the wine ages in oak barrels (70% new) for 15 months.

With outstanding aromatic qualities and a lush texture, the secret of Penfolds Rwt Bin 798 Shiraz lies in the blending of grapes from different areas. A typically Australian collector’s wine that is recognised and sought after by lovers of great works of art.
 

2018

Penfolds Rwt Bin 798 Shiraz 2018 is a red wine that is concentrated on both the nose and palate. Abundant notes of ripe black and red fruit, spicy hints and touches of wood. On the palate it is sweet, enveloping and elegant. A velvety wine with fresh acidity and a long, spicy finish.
2017

Penfolds Rwt Shiraz 2017 is a concentrated red wine boasting an abundance of intense red fruit aromas, subtle oak nuances, and hints of spice. On the palate, it is silky, opulent, and exquisitely refined. This wine possesses a splendid structure, with fine tannins and a lively acidity.
