Tasting notes Valdespino Palo Cortado Vintage Sherry Macharnudo Alto Single Vineyard 2001

Palo cortado (37,5 cl. (3/8)).

Valdespino Palo Cortado Vintage Sherry 2001 exudes a serene elegance, as if time itself had paused within the glass. Its amber hue with coppery highlights heralds a captivating complexity: roasted hazelnuts, candied orange peel, and a whisper of warm spices —nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove— that conjure images of ancient cellars and fine woods. On the palate, it is deep and harmonious, with a saline and mineral echo reminiscent of the Macharnudo Alto breeze. Long, dry, and enveloping, it imparts the sensation of having tasted a gem that unites patience, land, and memory.

About Valdespino Palo Cortado Vintage Sherry Macharnudo Alto Single Vineyard

In the Marco de Jerez (Spain), where history intertwines with the albariza soil, emerges a gem destined to endure: Valdespino Palo Cortado Vintage Sherry. Born of a single vintage and hailing from the legendary Pago Macharnudo Alto, this fortified wine pays homage to the legacy of one of the oldest and most esteemed houses in Jerez, whose origins trace back to the 13th century, after Don Alfonso Valdespino accompanied King Alfonso X during the Reconquista. Since then, the family has kept the essence of Jerez wine alive, preserving unique practices such as fermentation in oak casks and the use of criaderas that border on the legendary.

From a single harvest and aged statically, this palo cortado comes from just two selected casks, derived from the purest must —the first pressing— of old palomino vines. After beginning its life under a veil of flor, it evolved over time into oxidative aging that unveiled its exceptional character. With fewer than a thousand individually numbered half bottles, its concentration and complexity are the result of over two decades of patience and silence in the cellar.

Valdespino Palo Cortado Vintage Sherry Macharnudo Alto Single Vineyard is an extraordinary journey; it is the liquid memory of a vineyard, the whisper of time transformed into wine, the moment when the ephemeral and the eternal join hands. Ideal for savouring leisurely, alongside a game dish or aged cheese, it is a wine that transcends and reaffirms the eternal legacy of Valdespino: the art of transforming history, patience, and silence into wine.
