About Villa Massa Limoncello

Certifying the origin and production of grapes is very common in the world of winemaking. No matter how small it may be, each unique feature is guaranteed and marked under quality seals, like the Denomination of Origin (D.O.), or the Protected Geographical Indications (PGI). But did you know that even lemons have a PGI? Yes, you read that right. And Villa Massa Limoncello is made from these.

From the IGP Sorrento, in Italy’s Campania region, comes this limoncello made from a recipe dating back to 1890. The guardians of this masterful formula are Villa Masa, the family business that, in 1991, was the first to market this traditional Italian drink and make it known all around the world. Always with a local focus,

Villa Massa Limoncello is made with only the most natural products, where the natural cycles and maturation processes are respected. The oval lemons of Sorrento grow under the protection of thatched pergolas and a chestnut wood frame. When the time comes, the lemons are picked by hand, without touching the ground, and taken directly to the next stage of processing, where they are carefully peeled to make good slices. Here, in the skin of these lemons, lies the true essence of Villa Massa Limoncello.

Finally, Villa Massa Limoncello is left to macerate in alcohol, transferring all its essential oil to the mixture. A final filtration and a little syrup (with water and sugar) will be the finishing touches of Villa Massa Limoncello.
