Tasting notes Viña Salceda Cabezaparda 2024
Red wine Respectful agriculture. 12 months in separate containers.
Viña Salceda Cabezaparda 2024 boasts an appealing bright cherry red hue with a light intensity, inviting you to enjoy it at first glance. On the nose, it surprises with high aromatic intensity, showcasing aromas of redcurrants and wild strawberries, complemented by a spicy hint of white pepper. The most remarkable feature is its mineral character, a clear imprint of the clay-iron soils of Alto Najerilla, which adds complexity and authenticity. On the palate, it unfolds with a broad and lively texture, excellent acidity, and a long finish that leaves a subtle hint of forest red berries. Recommended for those seeking an elegant and fresh red wine that faithfully reflects its terroir.Style Viña Salceda Cabezaparda

About Viña Salceda Cabezaparda
In the Alto Najerilla, where Mount San Lorenzo rises to 2,106 metres, lies Cabezaparda, a high-altitude site surrounded by old vineyards of Garnacha. Between Badarán, Cordovín, and Cárdenas, some of these vines exceed a century in age, thriving in conditions that deeply influence the character of the wine.
From these plots emerges Viña Salceda Cabezaparda, one of the expressions of the winery's new phase, focused on identifying unique sites and allowing each to tell its own story. The Garnacha comes from bush-trained vines, some over a hundred years old, rooted in clay soils rich in iron, with veins of limestone and flint, and a surface covered with pebbles. This high-altitude landscape imparts freshness, tension, and a pronounced mineral personality.
In the winery, the work on Viña Salceda Cabezaparda seeks to preserve that identity without overwhelming it. The grapes are destemmed but not crushed, undergoing a cold pre-fermentation maceration for 5 days. They then ferment for 10 days at controlled temperatures, aiming for a precise extraction that respects the fruit.
The ageing of Viña Salceda Cabezaparda is spread over a year between 225-litre barrels, a 2,500-litre French oak foudre, and a concrete egg. These three different vessels allow for depth and complexity without losing the freshness that defines the vineyard.
Viña Salceda Cabezaparda represents the new direction of Viña Salceda: a Rioja crafted from the vineyard, the altitude, and the identity of each site. A wine that demonstrates that looking upwards can also be a way to better understand the terroir.
