About Barco del Corneta La Sillería

Barco del Corneta La Sillería is a white wine crafted by the winery Barco del Corneta in La Seca, V.T. Castilla y León.

In 2008, Beatriz Herranz returned to La Seca, Valladolid, to the family vineyards to embark on her new venture, aiming to recapture the essence of Verdejo.

She cultivates her entire vineyard adhering to the principles of agriculture, with a respect for the variety, the soil, and the climate. These vineyards are situated in the Paraje de Cantarranas, La Seca, on sandy soils with abundant pebbles and clay-limestone at deeper levels. The climate is continental, with cold and dry temperatures during the winter.
 

Barco del Corneta La Sillería is part of the restoration project that Beatriz conducts with local vintners using native varieties from the region. La Sillería originates from a Verdejo vineyard restored in 2013, with pre-phylloxera vines approximately 150 years old, located on loamy-sandy soils within the Tierra de Pinares region (Valladolid), at an altitude of 770 metres.

The harvest is conducted manually in 15 kg boxes, and it ferments in oak barrels of 300 and 500 litres with indigenous yeasts, where it matured for 12 months, followed by additional months in stainless steel tanks.

Barco del Corneta La Sillería 2020 is a luscious white wine with an invigorating bouquet exuding scents of white blossoms, citrus nuances, and hints of freshly mown grass. On the palate, it is velvety, pristine, and intricate. A medium-bodied wine with a vivid acidity, profound depth, and a mineral-laden finish.

2016 Barco del Corneta La Sillería 2016 is a white wine with aromas of citrus, almond blossoms and notes of pastries and toast. On the palate it is unctuous, deep and very mineral with a pleasant bitter finish.
2015 Barco del Corneta La Sillería 2015 is a complex, mature wine with volume. The incorporation of wood stands out in this vintage, giving it structure without masking the varietal notes of the genuine Verdejo.
