About Barco del Corneta Las Envidias

Barco del Corneta Las Envidias is a white wine without a designation of origin, crafted by the winery Barco del Corneta in La Seca, Valladolid.

In 2008, Beatriz Herranz returned to La Seca, Valladolid, to her family vineyards to embark on her new venture, aiming to revive the essence of Verdejo.

She cultivates her entire vineyard adhering to farming principles, respecting the variety, soil, and climate. These vineyards are situated in the Paraje de Cantarranas, La Seca, on sandy soils with abundant pebbles and clay-limestone at deeper levels. The climate is continental, with cold and dry temperatures during the winter.

Barco del Corneta Las Envidias is part of a recovery project, alongside Casio and Judas, that Beatriz is undertaking with local viticulturists using indigenous varieties from the region. Las Envidias originates from a century-old Palomino vineyard, which was semi-abandoned, located in the municipality of Alcazarén, at an altitude of 750 metres.

Harvesting is done manually in 15 kg boxes. After macerating for 12-18 hours, the whole grapes are pressed and the juice ferments in two 300-litre oak barrels with native yeasts. Once fermentation is complete, it rests for 12 months in these same barrels under a layer of flor yeast. Before bottling, it spends several months in stainless steel tanks.

Barco del Corneta Las Envidias 2019 is a mature white wine exuding aromas of dried fruit, hints of spice, and resinous undertones. On the palate, it is fresh, saline, and harmonious. A medium-bodied wine with delightful freshness and mineral aftertastes.

2016 Barco del Corneta Las Envidias 2016 is a ripe, complex and very dry white wine. On the nose stand the aromas of nuts stand out with light toasted notes. On the palate it is intense and very long. There are very few bottles of this vintage.
