About Didier Grappe Traminer Longefin
In the intricate world of winemaking, the names and classifications of grape varieties hold significant importance, as they are closely tied to the region of origin and winemaking traditions. One of the most interesting examples of this situation is the relationship between the grapes traminer and savagnin. The Jura in France has secured the protection of the term savagnin through its appellation status. This protection ensures that only wines produced in this region and meeting specific regulations can bear the name savagnin. This is why wine producers who do not adhere to the AOC Côtes du Jura and use the savagnin grape label their wines using the name traminer. One such producer is Didier Grappe. This prominent oenologist and viticulturist from the Jura, known for his unconventional approach and independence from traditional regulations, prefers to work under the category Vin de France to experiment and apply his natural methods without the constraints imposed by the appellation. The result of this creative flexibility is Didier Grappe Traminer Longefin.
Sourced from his 4 hectares of estate located in the heart of the Jura region, Didier Grappe Traminer Longefin is a single-varietal traminer cultivated according to biodynamic methods. It is farmed without chemical fertilizers, and yields are limited to achieve healthy and well-ripened fruits that reflect the terroir. In the winery, with the aim of obtaining the purest expression of the Jura, it is vinified in the "Ouillé" style, meaning the wine vessels are topped up to inhibit oxidative phenomena, unfiltered and with very low sulfur content. In essence, pure grape!
Didier Grappe Traminer Longefin is an excellent representation of what can be achieved when a viticulturist follows his own path, outside the traditional constraints of the AOC. An authentic, vibrant wine deeply connected to its terroir, ideal for natural wine enthusiasts and explorers of new flavors.
